Luke Russert Biography
Luke Russert is an American broadcast news correspondent who worked for NBC News from 2008-2016.
Many times he has been seen reporting on NBC Nightly News, TODAY, NBCNews.com, and MSNBC. He has also been a guest anchor on such notable shows as the MSNBC programs Andrea Mitchell Reports and Way Too Early.
From his childhood, Luke was mostly surrounded by journalists, starting with his parents who also were journalists
His work was on the channel’s show, “Pardon the Interruption”. In those times, he also hosted the sports talk program “60/20 Sports” on XM Satellite Radio with James Carville.

Russert attended the St. Albans School located in Washington, D.C. where he graduated in 2004.
After that, he pursued further studies at Boston College. Sometime later, he graduated earning his Bachelor of Arts Degree in History and Communications in 2008. While studying at Boston, he took on a job at ESPN.

Just after his graduation from Boston, and a month after his father’s death, Luke secured a job as a correspondent in NBC. At first, he was taken in as part of the network’s coverage of the 2008 presidential elections.
At that time, he covered both the Republican and Democratic conventions. His report on the election day explored the impact of Barack Obama’s win on the young people. The report is noted as a key piece that led to NBC’s News & Documentary Emmy award for its 2008 Election Night coverage.
In his first years, he was heavily critiqued by colleagues as well as critics. They accused him of unqualified nepotism because he got the job at NBC so fast, even though he lacked any prior professional experience as a journalist.
They cited the cause as both his father’s position at NBC and his mother’s position as a Vanity Fair correspondent. He acknowledged the accusations and made attempts to ignore them.
Luke Russert Congress (2009-2016)
In May 2009, he started working for NBC News on Capitol Hill as a congressional correspondent. In this role, he covered the House of Representatives.
The year after, he made headlines after he was criticized by the then-House Ways and Means Committee Chairman Charlie Rangel for his aggressive questioning over ethics report that showed Rangel’s fiscal indiscretions and illegal donation solicitations.
However, sometime later, Congressman Charlie Rangel reversed his stance and made an apology to Luke. In February 2012, Luke was first showcased on NBC’s “Dateline” with Conviction. The show investigated the 1998 murder conviction of Jon-Adrian Velazquez.
In the show, they tried to see whether Jon-Adrian Velazquez was justified or whether Velazquez was wrongly sentenced to life imprisonment for a murder he didn’t commit. The episode was a massive hit earning a nomination for a News & Documentary Emmy Award for Best Report in a News Magazine.
For a time, Luke hosted “The Briefing”, a web-only show on msnbc.com. According to him, the show is like a “younger man’s Charlie Rose”. In July 2016, Luke stepped down from his position at NBC. He cited his reasons as he needed to evaluate his career opportunities.
